It has been one hot minute since I have made an appearance on this blog. And to be honest, it has been quite refreshing. It can be so easy to get caught up in the constant daily pressures to be the best in the world of blogging: posting the best images, writing the most witty captions on Instagram photos, creating new recipes each and everyday. But in the real world of life, these tasks are not always achievable.
Life happens, and we gotta learn to take time for ourselves. When your progress-driven mind tells you to write a freaking awesome post or else you aren’t going to make it in life, do the exact opposite and take a step back. Take time to go watch the sunset or stay up three hours past your bedtime reading inspirational literature. Go for a movie with your best girlfriends. Sing as loud as you possibly can in the shower. Compliment a random person on the street. Simply live.
I’ve been stuck in this rut of produce, produce, produce lately and that has only stressed me out. I forgot the whole purpose of this blog: To live a creative and fulfilling life and share my passions with my followers. I was focusing on the creative aspect and completely abandoning the living part. Believe it or not, there is a world out there beyond the wide web, and it’s pretty fantastic. There is nothing more meaningful than having an in-depth conversation with someone you love or laughing until it feels like you’ve done a five minute plank. These are real physical experiences that cannot even begin to be explained by emojis, and they trump any snapchat story you have ever seen. But you won’t really know until you leave the technology behind and try it out yourself.
I haven’t been on my food Instagram for about a week, and I cannot say how proud I am of myself. Don’t get me wrong, I still LOVE to post and connect with other bloggers, but we all need a break every once in a while. A break to see the world, gather inspiration, and just live. That being said, I am refreshed and ready as ever to commit a more balanced approach to this blog. If I don’t have time to post a recipe every. single. week. the world will still turn. If I have boatloads of homework or I want to go to a Friday night football game, the blog is going to sit on the back burning for a while. Because life is not just about the pictures you take or the image you portray to your followers. It is much more than that, and I want my blog to reflect that. Thanks for staying with me, and here is an awesome rice crispy treat recipe for your reward!
- 4 cups crispy brown rice cereal
- ½ cup honey
- ½ cup almond butter (or allergy friendly alternative)
- pinch of salt
- 1 scoop vanilla protein powder (completely optional)
- In a large microwave safe bowl, add the almond butter and honey. Microwave for 30 seconds and stir until smooth.
- Mix in the cereal, salt, and protein powder if using, and stir to combine.
- Press mixture into an 8x8 square baking pan lined with parchment.
- Freeze for an hour before cutting into bars. The bars can either be stored in the fridge or freezer. I prefer mine straight out of the freezer.
